The Solitary Hound [Ana]

Post  God on Thu 11 Jan 2018 - 17:43

[During Court]

Scanning the room, Anastasia spotted the brown floor-length dress and greyish bald plate of the larger Nosferatu on the other side of the hall, back turned to the other Kindred. Either she was being as anti-social as possible while still in a room with company, or she was looking at something...

Carefully avoiding a musky or overexcited ambush, Ana makes her way over to the new Hound, approaching from the side so the Nosferatu could see her coming. As Ana moved towards her, she tried to figure out what the Fenja was admiring.

"Good evening. What's that you're looking at?"

As Anastasia approached, she soon realised exactly what had the Nosferatu's attention; an exotic-looking suit of armour which she was sure hadn't been there last Court.

Fenja turned to look at Anastasia with what might have been a raised eyebrow, if she'd still possessed them, that is. She was wearing the very same dress as each Court before; a maternity affair made from bombazine, perhaps now approaching twenty years old. Clean and unwrinkled, though Anastasia couldn't help but notice the tiny thinning part on the right knee where she believed a moth had attacked it recently.

"I'm sorry, I feel like I'm interrupting. I didn't mean to." Anastasia pauses and takes a slight step back. "I can leave if you'd like. Just hadn't seen this suit before, and Elizabeth is... a little upset with me. So you're my best bet of figuring out what those characters mean."

The Nosferatu gave a little shrug. 'I do not know what they mean, or if they mean anything. The armour is new; donated to the collection just last month.'

"I see. It is a nice looking suit of armour. But I think I'd hate to wear it." She suppresses a small cough. "Though I might prefer it over this corset. How's life as a Hound?"

'Think it was made for decoration, not combat.' Fenja replied, looking back at it for a moment. 'Not very practical, at least.'

On Anastasia's question, the Nosferatu took a nonchalant air and gave another little shrug. 'Mainly the same as before. It is a task I have done before, which is why I think the Baron gave it to me.'

"Pretty over practical," grins Anastasia. "Because what could be more reassuring to Lords and peasants than all things pretty. It makes one wonder what looks pretty to us, and impractical to a peasant or Lord, no?"

"And I could tell you'd seen your share of combat, but I didn't want to assume. Was it a larger fief than here? And is that any different?"

Fenja was utterly unmoved about Anastasia's comments about beauty; she was sure she saw the Hound's eyes narrow ever-so-slightly. Perhaps not the best topic to discuss with a Nosferatu.

'Yes. At the time, Norwich was around half the size. But alike in many ways. The country parts remind me of there.' tone softening a little.

The tiniest hint of a raised eyebrow at the Hound's narrowing eyes, but no comment or anything of the sort.

"You know, I once met Scotsman. The habitual kilt-wearing kind. Smoked a pipe, too, though no bags that I'm aware of. Anyway, Mac dabbled a bit in ornithology. He wasn't any good, mind you, but was absolutely convinced that Scottish songbirds were by far the greatest singers in the world, on account of all the Gaelic rubbing off on them."

"But yes, some of my fondest memories are of the countryside too. Is it just the general feel of the fields that reminds you of there? Or are there any hidden gems that you miss on normal patrol routes?"

The Hound was silent for a moment before answering softly. 'The marshes, fishermen and boats. The little villages on the islands, organised neatly so not to waste space. Scent of salt, sandy hills...' drifting off back into silence.

'How are you finding Norwich, Miss Mills?' clearly attempting to change the topic.

"Not quite as exciting as my first night here," she smiles. "Though perhaps that's a good thing. It's starting to feel more and more like home. I'm even almost used to the accent. Almost..."

The Nosferatu was silent at this, instead turning to look to the other Kindred in the room. 'Better or worse than theirs?' she said; if Anastasia followed her gaze she'd see Fenja looking at Farley and Moore talking about something... or more correctly, the Steward saying something which didn't seem do be going down well with the Gangrel.
